Sarah Palin

Got to love this one...this should be an interesting campaign.

Excited Again!

I havent' posted here in a few weeks. I got a bit burnt out about the campaign season. Now, John McCain goes and picks Sarah Palin.

I've been hoping she'd be the VP pick for a few months. For those of you that don't know a thing about her...get ready, you're about to be amazed. She's a great candidate, leader, and even more important, a great person.

More to follow.

Obamessiah at it again!

This one is an absolute hoot! This must be a joke. Is it April 1st?

Obama's Policy Paper wrote:

Forcing big oil companies to take a reasonable share of their record breaking windfall profits and use it to help struggling families with direct relief worth $500 for an individual and $1,000 for a married couple. The relief would be delivered as quickly as possible to help families cope with the rising price of gasoline, food and other necessities.

The rebates would be fully paid for with five years of a windfall profits tax on record oil company profits. This relief would be a down payment on Obama’s long-term plan to provide middle-class families with at least $1000 per year in permanent tax relief.

This is what happens when folks who have never run a business or been employed in the private sector producing a product try to write policies.

If you tax a specific company or sector, they will still need to make a profit if possible. If that tax eats into their bottom line, they will RAISE PRICES to compensate. The end result is the consumer pays the tax. The consumer (you and I) always pays any income tax levied on any corporation. The corporation merely collects the tax and passes it on to the government.

This is just a shell game, and its completely laughable.

Glenn Beck and I...separated at birth (and a few years)

I swear, I rarely listen to a guy on the radio or TV and feel like I'm in agreement with even 80% of the time. With Glenn Beck, its running about 97%. I'm serious, this guy just somehow embodies nearly all the emotion, passion and frustration I feel with government on a daily basis. I've referenced Glenn on my blog before. His article on "what is a conservative" was dead on.

Today, he's got an excellent article on CNN.com. He, like a lot of us conservatives, can't find a candidate to get excited about. (Whoah, my last post said I was excited about a candidate. But being excited about Bob Barr (or any 3rd party candidate) is kind of like being excited about the Chicago Cubs. I love them, think they're great, but I won't get my hopes up until I see them in the hunt in October.)
Here's an excerpt from Glenn's article.

Some of my friends say that McCain is simply the lesser of two evils. He's not great, but he's all we've got. And when you're up against Barack Obama, not so bad looks really good. While, by my standards, I don't doubt McCain would be less damaging for the next four years, he might be worse for the next four decades.

The scenario that keeps running through my head goes like this: John McCain somehow wins; the major problems we're likely going to face regardless of who is elected kick in; McCain gets blamed; and conservative ideals take the fall for McCain's decidedly nonconservative policies. Plus, it's always been my theory that you should be voting for something, not against something. Trying to win an election by just being against something is usually fruitless; see John Kerry.

A Politician I Can Get Excited About

Funny thing politics is sometimes. There's nothing Barack Obama can say to make me vote for him. At the same time, there's nothing John McCain can do to make me want to vote for him either. However, Barack Obama can say and do some things that make me want to vote for John McCain. Funny how that works. (As a caveat, I will not be voting for John McCain regardless. Living in IL, its a given my states Electoral College votes will be going to Senator Obama. On the other hand, some of McCain's VP choices could make me a bit more excited about his candidacy if for nothing more than helping some of the next generation of conservative leaders get positive exposure. Some examples are Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin and Louisiana Gov. Bobby Gindal.)

Unfortunately, our tired two party system of government leaves us with only two real choices. However, with the continual march against liberty in the U.S. perhaps a third party candidate can emerge and make a difference. Campaign finance laws enacted by Democrats and Republicans however make it very difficult for third parties to emerge.

Nevertheless, I enjoyed this video put out by the Libertarian candidate Bob Barr.

Disturbed: Indestructible

Thanks to RTB_2010 over at the rumor mill at www.edodo.org for making me aware of this song.

If you guys don't know one thing about Disturbed is that their music has become very popular with troops in Iraq. Many soldiers will crank Disturbed in their iPods before heading out on a mission. I remember reading an article in Guitar World about the guys in Disturbed and they initially were a bit reluctant about being in that role. They didn't necessarily support the war, but they were honored that the troops loved their music, and that it meant a lot to them. Ultimately, Disturbed has become very involved with the USO and has done several concerts for troops in Iraq.

This song "Indestructible" has been written specifically dedicated to our troops. Great jobs guys.

Enjoy:

Creepy!
